Meditation At The Providence Institute
We primarily offer instruction in the Tibetan Buddhist style of meditation known as shamatha-vipashyana, which translates to “calm abiding” and “clear seeing.” In addition to regular sitting meditation, we do a lot of somatic work, bringing the natural awareness of the whole body into consciousness. The somatic work is especially helpful in keeping meditation from being a discursive exercise or head trip. Our “mind” is in every cell of our body, not just our head, so we need a meditation style comprehensive and holistic enough to really work. Somatic shamatha-vipashyana can be tremendously helpful in relieving trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, fear-of-the-apocalypse and other currently trending issues (snerk (but seriously)), as well as problems with physical health. Meditation is unparalleled as a method of awakening from our habitual patterns of suffering.
A meditation session at pi usually consists of both sitting practice and guided, lying down protocols.
